About Us
Our Story – Why Quirina Memorial Clinic
Our name is inspired by Dolly Parton’s song “Coat of Many Colors” – where she sings, “Although we had no money, I was rich as I could be.” It reminds us that love can make you rich even when you are poor.
Quirina Memorial Clinic is named in loving memory of my mother, Quirina Bakerebera.
We grew up poor in a small humble village of Rwakijuma, Kyezimbire, Kikagate, in Isingiro District, South Western Uganda. Despite our poverty, this woman endured and ensured that I went to school and attained an education. I am who I am today because of her sacrifice.
The only thing we could do for her, together with my family, was to build this clinic as a way of giving back to our community.
Isingiro has no referral hospital. To access referral services, one has to travel over 40 miles to Mbarara. Not everyone can afford transport to access a good health facility.
I developed the idea for the clinic after meeting my maternal uncle and seeing firsthand how much our people needed care closer to home.
Today, Quirina Memorial Clinic stands to provide accessible, compassionate healthcare to the people of Isingiro. Although we started many years ago, we launched officially on 04th/January/2025.
Around the clinic, we grow coffee and fruits such as jackfruit, mangoes, avocados, and papaya — providing food, shade, and fresh air for our patients, and keeping our mother’s spirit of cultivation alive.
This clinic is her legacy. It is love continuing to heal.
Growing health, wellness, and sustainability — Quirina Memorial Clinic.
Who We Are
Quirina Memorial Clinic is a community-based health initiative in Isingiro District, Uganda.
We started with a simple question: How can we truly make our community healthy? We found the answer needs three pillars:
TREATING - Health Care
We provide affordable, dignified medical care to all who come to us. No one should suffer because they cannot afford treatment.
FEEDING - Food as Medicine
A patient cannot heal on an empty stomach. That is why we grow our own food. Our gardens and small farm provide fresh matoke, cassava, sweet potatoes, beans, eggs, and milk to nourish our patients and staff. Healthy food is part of our prescription.
TEACHING - Education for Hope
We support orphans and children who cannot afford school fees. By paying for their education, we break the cycle of poverty and poor health. An educated child can heal their whole family tomorrow.
Our Mission
To heal the sick, feed the vulnerable, and educate the future.
Our Philosophy
True health is complete — body, stomach, and mind. When we treat illness, grow food, and educate children, we heal the whole community.
Our Vision
A community whose health is supported on every side: medicine when it is needed, nutritious food grown locally, and children who stay in school and finish it.
One family home. One decision.
Rather than wait for that to change, the founder converted his family home into a medical facility. It opened on 4 January 2025 with eleven beds, a laboratory and scanning services.
On its first day the clinic met a family affected by jiggers. The team treated them, helped clear the infestation, and supported the children in returning to school. That first day set the pattern for everything since: treat what is in front of you, then deal with the reason it happened.
